"Downstream"

Robert Spannring / Comment on this

I posted a comment to Keith Bond's article "Do You Ask Questions". This is a very effective tool. I am posted my original draft for an exhibit i did back in 2006, 2007 until the untimely death of my dear friend and fellow artist Jody Menge in 2007. Unfortunately the traveling exhibit was cut short. But the idea to ask a question is a very valid one, that creates a space for the audience to become engaged. The rough draft of the exhibit is posted at AuthorStream if you care to see more.

this is the exhibit in 2007 at Miles City Heritage Art Center.

These vessels and pedestals were fun to build. I am also a ceramist, throwing these large vessels with cone 6 white stoneware, then used watercolor underglazes to capture the color of water and sand.  Inside the pedestals there is an inner light base, with a plastic top to place objects on. The interior is gold leafed that interacts with the light to create a wonderful warm glow. The pedestals where shaped, cone shaped like church steeples, painted flat black, with a thick white plastic top, for the vessel to sit upon, then of course a hole through the plastic top and the bottom of the vessel so a person can peer into the inner space.

These are a few photographs of the exhibit in Miles City Montana.

The last one is a view peering into the vessel, into the pedestal, where different objects were presented.
